Railroad and Bridges Tour
This tour showcases the remnants of a time when railroad was the prime means of transportation for both commuters and shipping. The importance of the railroad is also displayed by the residential neighborhoods that were developed around the railroad stations in the late 19th century. Chicago's waterways also led to innovations in bridge engineering, including the world first trunnion bascule bridge, more commonly referred to as a "Chicago type bridge."
