Middle Eastern
Middle Eastern-style buildings are an eclectic combination of building forms and exotic details derive from the architecture of the Byzantine and Islamic empires. Although few Middle Eastern buildings were built in Chicago, the style was most typically used for clubs, theaters, and religious buildings between 1910 and 1930. Common characteristics are:
- colorful terra cotta and ceramic tile ornament forming complex geometric patterns
- elaborate rooflines of towers and domes
